Residents completing the PGY1/PGY2 Community-based Pharmacy Administration and Leadership Residency Program will complete the ASHP requirements for the PGY1 Community-based Residency and the PGY2 Community-based Pharmacy Administration and Leadership Residency. The resident will have the opportunity to complete residency standards for each program during the two years. Residents typically complete most requirements for the PGY1 Community-based Residency Program during their first year. Purpose: PGY2 pharmacy residency programs build on Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm.D.) education and PGY1 pharmacy residency programs to contribute to the development of clinical pharmacists in specialized areas of practice. PGY2 residencies provide residents with opportunities to function independently as practitioners by conceptualizing and integrating accumulated experience and knowledge and incorporating both into the provision of patient care or other advanced practice settings. Residents who successfully complete an accredited PGY2 pharmacy residency are prepared for advanced patient care, academic, or other specialized positions, along with board certification, if available.
Description: Graduates of the program will have competencies in assessing and resolving patient and organizational needs related to specialized medication therapies administered in the community, complex medication distribution models, and evolving payment models in the outpatient setting. Participants will gain the business tools and knowledge to understand and analyze the changing nature of today’s complex medical delivery systems, plus the resource management skills and savvy to anticipate and respond to those changes. The Community Pharmacy Administrative and Leadership Residency Program is designed to offer a strong foundation for residents including robust PGY1 community pharmacy clinical experiences within the fully integrated health system of Johns Hopkins Medicine, as well as diverse operational, clinical, and financial management rotations in the home based, community, ambulatory, and acute care settings. The two-year residency is combined with a Masters of Business Administration (M.B.A) with an emphasis in Health Care Management (54 credit hours) or a Master of Science (M.S.) in Health Care Management (36 credits hours) from The Johns Hopkins Carey Business School.

Johns Hopkins Carey Business School- Tuition
- The tuition for the MBA or MS degree with the Johns Hopkins Carey Business School is supported by the Johns Hopkins Home Care Group.
- Candidates applying to the residency program do not need to complete a separate application for the Carey Business School as part of the residency application process. This is completed after matching with the program.
- Classes may be conducted in-person or virtually. Classes typically take place from 6-9 pm in the evening.

Collaboration with the Acute Care Health-System Pharmacy Administration Residency
- There are two administration and leadership residency programs within the Johns Hopkins Health System, an acute care and a community focused residency program. Both programs collaborate closely and have many shared learning opportunities.

- All Johns Hopkins pharmacy administration and leadership residents have the opportunity to complete rotations in all sites of care within the health-system. The ratio of time spent in each site of care will vary between programs (for example: the Community Pharmacy Administration and Leadership Resident will have some rotation in the acute care setting but will spend the majority of their time in the community, specialty, and ambulatory setting).
