The Hopkins heart center was our ‘home away from home’ in a very difficult time. The COVID pandemic was new for everyone, and staff were getting new rules and regulations by the minute. I was impressed with their composure while they cared for Bennett as if it was just a routine procedure during a routine time.

The team at the Heart Center is amazing! In the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic, the heart valve that was placed 29 years ago to correct my tetralogy of Fallot, failed. This team has made it so I can continue caring for the 6 children I was fortunate to bring into this world, and so I can return to living the active lifestyle I have grown to love.

    Navy's Story

    Before Navy was born, she was diagnosed with a rare congenital heart abnormality called tetralogy of Fallot with an absent pulmonary valve. Because Navy was so small at birth, pediatric cardiac surgeon Bret Mettler suggested she wait until she got bigger to have surgery. After a few months at home, Navy returned to Johns Hopkins Children's Center to undergo open-heart surgery.
