  • Wheelchairs are available in our main lobby. Please ask our concierge or helpful volunteer staff for more information.

  • Free wireless Internet service is available throughout the hospital and in all patient rooms. The “JHGuestnet” wireless network is for use by the hospital’s guests and visitors.

  • Suburban Hospital provides translation services in any language through a specially designed phone interpretation service to ensure that you can communicate with, and get information from, your health care providers. If you would like to use this service throughout your appointment, please see Language Services for more information.

The system allows a conversation to be translated by a certified medical interpreter via a three-way phone. The interpreter can identify the language needed for translation and provide the interpretation. For more information about the system, visitors or patients can ask any nurse on the patient care unit.

  • You can use your laptop, tablet, cell phone and their charging devices anywhere except in areas marked “No Phone Zone.”

Such devices may interfere with medical equipment. We are not responsible for lost cellular devices. Cell phone charging stations are available in the emergency department and the 5th floor surgical waiting area.

  • Uniformed security officers patrol the hospital campus 24 hours a day. An officer also monitors the emergency department entrance. If you have any security questions or concerns, please call the security office at 301-896-2500 or 2500 from any hospital phone.

  • An ATM is on the second floor of the hospital near the cafeteria.

  • The Suburban Hospital Gift Shop, located on the first floor by the main elevators, stocks a wide variety of items appropriate for patients and visitors, including toiletries, snacks, cards, books, magazines, flower arrangements and other unique gifts. The gift shop is operated by the Suburban Hospital Auxiliary for the benefit of the hospital. It is open most weekdays from 10:00 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. and weekends, noon to 5 p.m.

For medical reasons, flowers and plants are not permitted in patient rooms in the intensive care unit or progressive cardiac care unit. If you have questions about the appropriateness of a gift for a patient, please ask the nursing staff.

  • The Shapiro Hospitality Room on the sixth floor provides a room and shower for families of all faiths when loved ones in the hospital facing life-threatening illnesses. Friday evenings and high holidays are reserved for Jewish families to support observances.

  • The interfaith meditation room on the first floor is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week, for prayer reflection and meditation.
