Pediatric Emergency Medicine

The Pediatric Emergency Department at the Johns Hopkins Children's Center provides compassionate and high quality care to children with multisystem illness and trauma — 24 hours per day, seven days a week. The department is staffed by pediatric emergency medicine specialists and supported by pediatric surgeons, pediatric anesthesiology and critical care specialists, and practitioners from a full spectrum of pediatric specialty areas.

As the only accredited pediatric trauma center in Maryland, we receive critically ill or injured children from all over Maryland and from adjacent states.

Our Mission

The mission of the Division of Pediatric Emergency Medicine is to:

  • Provide outstanding care for ill or injured children
  • Produce the highest caliber research on a variety of topics in pediatric emergency medicine, including simulation, injury prevention, point-of-care ultrasound and pre-hospital emergency care
  • Educate future providers of, and leaders in, pediatric emergency and urgent care
  • Advocate regionally, nationally and internationally for children’s emergent and urgent clinical care needs
