Meet Our PM&R Residents

Johns Hopkins physical medicine and rehabilitation residents have many opportunities to engage in academic study and leading research. Our residents boast a proud history of publishing research in well-recognized journals and texts, and, with the support of our faculty mentors, have presented their work at international and national conferences.

Alexander Shustorovich: 2020 Frank L. Coulson Jr. Resident Award for Clinical Excellence

This honor is awarded annually to the resident in each program who exemplifies clinical excellence. The Miller Coulson Academy of Clinical Excellence (MCACE) defines clinical excellence as achieving a level of mastery in six key areas as they relate to patient care.

Alba Azola: 2019 Frank L. Coulson Jr. Resident Award for Clinical Excellence

This honor is awarded annually to the resident in each program who exemplifies clinical excellence. This award was created in memory of Mr. Coulson, who was particularly interested in supporting the development of the next generation of clinically excellent physicians. In his profession, he was a renowned mentor who thoughtfully and passionately supported the growth and development of many.

Travis Edmiston: 2018 Frank L. Coulson Jr. Resident Award for Clinical Excellence

This annual award for clinical excellence is given to exceptional doctors-in-training (and potential future Academy members) in all Johns Hopkins residency programs. It honors commitment to professional excellence and aims to promote excellence in patient care at Johns Hopkins for the benefit of the individuals and communities that we serve.

Mi Ran Shin: May 2018 Resident Appreciation Award

The House Staff Council is the self-governing and representative body of the interns and residents of the Johns Hopkins Hospital and the Bayview campus. The resident appreciation award is based on nominations by fellow residents to the residents whom they believe provide exceptional patient care and exemplify a compassionate approach in their interactions with patients, staff and colleagues.

Charles Odonkor: 2017 Martin Luther King Jr. Community Service Award

Since 2014, Charles Odonkor and a few colleagues have offered a free writing and review service to help minority students craft compelling, error-free essays as part of their applications for college and medical school. As a founder of Project REACH, Representatives for Equal Access to Community Health, Odonkor has helped more than 400 students since 2011.

Patients come from all over the world just to be seen at Johns Hopkins. This means you have the opportunity to take care of a diverse range of patients with a wide variety of pathologies, both simple and complex, during your training. The program also has a wonderful alumni network and a great track record of residents getting their top choices in jobs and fellowships.
