The Center for Nanomedicine (CNM)
The CNM at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine invites applications for a postdoctoral position to work with Drs. Laura Ensign, Justin Hanes, and Kunal Parikh on translational projects related to device-based drug delivery systems.
We are seeking a candidate with experience and knowledge in the manufacture, development, and characterization of polymeric drug delivery systems, including formulation development, biodegradable polymers, small molecule drugs, surface modification, sterilization, and evaluation of mechanical properties. Experience and knowledge of drug analysis with high-performance liquid chromatography is required.
This position requires a doctoral degree in Engineering, Pharmaceutical Sciences, Materials Science, or similar areas, who has excellent oral and written communications skills. Applicants should have the ability to work both independently and as part of a collaborative research group.
Prior experience with ocular drug delivery and preclinical animal models is preferred. Prior experience with electrospinning and manufacturing systems is also preferred, but not required.

The Visual Neuroscience Training Program
The Visual Neuroscience Training Program (VNTP) is supported by a training grant from the National Eye Institute, and represents a collaboration between the Wilmer Eye Institute and the Department of Neuroscience. Its purpose is to provide multidisciplinary training in visual neuroscience research by combining research opportunities and a specially designed didactic program. Faculty members associated with the VNTP are Drs. Zack (Program Director), Campochiaro, Connor, Dagnelie, Hendry, Hoffman, Hsiao, Johnson, Kirkwood, Massof, Montell, Nathans, Niebur, Quigley, Rubin, Sundin, Turano, Valle, Von der Heydt, Worley, Yau, and Zee. Disciplines represented among these faculty include molecular biology, cellular and developmental biology, immunology, cellular electrophysiology, experimental pathology, and visual psychophysics.
Student Eligibility and Requirements
The program supports both predoctoral and postdoctoral students. Predoctoral students will be eligible to enter the VNTP after they complete the first, introductory year of the Neuroscience Program. In addition to their participation in the general activities of the Neuroscience Program, VNTP students will be expected to do research in visual neurosciences under the supervision of one of the faculty members mentioned above, and to select at least three visual neurosciences courses as part of the six electives required by the Neuroscience Program. VNTP elective courses include Physiology of Sensory Transduction (King-Wai Yau), Primate Visual System (Hendry and von der Heydt), Cellular and Molecular Biology of Photoreceptors in Health and Disease, Development of the Visual System (Sundin and Zack), Introduction to Visual Psychophysics (Massof and staff), Advanced Visual Psychophysics (Massof and staff) and Molecular Mechanisms of Sensory Transduction (Nathans). A series of seminars on visual neurosciences by invited speakers will also be offered as part of the VNTP.
