The DAISY Award

We are proud to honor our outstanding nurses with the DAISY Award — an international recognition program that celebrates the skillful, compassionate care nurses provide to patients and families every day.

The DAISY (Diseases Attacking the Immune SYstem) Award was established in memory of J. Patrick Barnes, who died at 33 of an autoimmune disease. The Barnes family was awestruck by the clinical skills and compassion of the nurses who cared for Patrick, so they created this award to say thank-you to nurses everywhere.

About the DAISY Award

Anyone can nominate a nurse — patients, family members, visitors, physicians, staff members and volunteers — by sharing a story of the outstanding care the nurse provided. Each year, one extraordinary Johns Hopkins Community Physicians nurse will be selected to receive the DAISY Award by a committee of peers.

Each DAISY Award recipient will be recognized at ceremony and will receive a DAISY Award certificate, a DAISY Award lapel pin and a hand-carved stone sculpture titled A Healer’s Touch.

Meet Our DAISY Award Recipient Tiffany Etzel, B.S.N., R.N.

Tiffany Etzel, R.N., is an R.N. team leader at our Remington Gyn/Ob practice and has been with Johns Hopkins Community Physicians since 2014. Tiffany (pictured with director of education and nursing, Chris Rawlinson) is dedicated, hardworking and a true team player. As the practice's nurse leader, she ensures that the team provides the care their patients need, and she has been instrumental in expanding and streamlining services, including supporting coordination with the Johns Hopkins Center for Transgender Health. She advocates for patients and for her colleagues. Most importantly, she provides compassionate, skilled, and thorough care to our patients. She has led the nursing team during the COVID-19 pandemic while continuing to keep a positive attitude and outlook to provide the best experience for our patients. Tiffany is a definite asset to the team.
