WellSpan Health Collaboration

In 2021, WellSpan Health and Johns Hopkins Medicine announced an expanded plan to fight cancer together in South Central Pennsylvania. The comprehensive collaboration will combine the expertise of WellSpan cancer physicians and programs with the innovative clinical, research and educational capabilities of Johns Hopkins Medicine.

Highlights of the expanded collaboration include:

three doctors collaborating
  • Aligning clinical research strategies with a focus on outpatient medical oncology, radiation oncology and outpatient infusion therapy.
  • Coordinating quality assessments and standards with the Armstrong Institute for Patient Safety and Quality
  • Peer-to-peer consultations

As part of the agreement, WellSpan joins the Johns Hopkins Clinical Research Network, a regional translational research organization that links Johns Hopkins Medicine with a diverse network of community based health care delivery systems and that offers researchers the opportunity to collaborate with other purpose-driven researchers. Access to over 5 million potential research participants is available. We provide a unique collaborative infrastructure that aims to enhance the flow of scientific information by supporting multisite clinical, translational and pragmatic research.

WellSpan’s cancer experts see nearly 4,000 new patients annually across all their cancer centers, including the newly expanded WellSpan York Cancer Center, which opened this past summer. The collaboration agreement with Johns Hopkins Medicine will extend to and benefit all of WellSpan’s cancer centers, including the WellSpan Adams Cancer Center, the WellSpan Ephrata Cancer Center, the WellSpan Sechler Family Cancer Center and WellSpan cancer care locations in Franklin County.
