Julie A. Caffrey, D.O., assistant professor of plastic and reconstructive surgery at The Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. She specializes in the treatment of burn wounds, including reconstructive burn surgery, surgical management of complex wounds and burn deformities.

Dr. Caffrey specializes in the treatment of burn wounds, including reconstructive burn surgery, surgical management of complex wound and burn deformities.A native of Bowie, Maryland, she is currently researching the infection control measures in the burn center, sleep hygiene and reduction of opioid dependence post burn injury. This work has led to a reduction in hospital acquired infections. 

Dr. Caffrey completed a fellowship in burn surgery (adult and pediatrics) at Westchester Medical Center in Valhalla, New York, in June 2014. Following that, she continued as a burn and research fellow at the Johns Hopkins Burn Center and Michael D. Hendrix Burn Research Center. 

Dr. Caffrey earned an undergraduate degree in biology at Salisbury University, followed by a master's in biomedical sciences and a doctor of osteopathic medicine at Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine. She completed a residency in general surgery at both Peninsula Hospital Center in Far Rockaway, New York, and Flushing Hospital Medical Center in Flushing, New York.

Dr. Caffrey is a member of the American Burn Association, the American College of Osteopathic Surgeons, the American College of Surgeons and the American College of Women Surgeons.

Dr. Caffrey holds a board certification through the American Board of Osteopathic Surgery (AOBS). She holds additional certifications in Advanced Trauma Life Support and Advanced Burn Life Support through the American Burn Association.
