Research Summary

Dr. Trent’s research interest has been on improving adolescent and young adult reproductive health outcomes with a specific focus on fertility preservation for adolescent girls with reproductive endocrine disorders and those at risk for complications of sexually transmitted infections. Over the course of her research career, she has utilized a variety of research strategies to better understand the barriers and facilitators to both adolescent care delivery in pediatric settings and patient adherence to treatment for complicated sexually transmitted infections to design innovative approaches to care.  As an example, Dr. Trent is currently the Principal Investigator of the TECH-N study, a large randomized controlled clinical trial funded by the National Institute of Nursing Research designed to test a technology enhanced community health nursing intervention to improve patient adherence and reduce recurrent sexually transmitted infections amongst adolescents and young adults diagnosed with pelvic inflammatory disease.
