We provide the framework that physicians need to deliver the best care to patients in their own communities. In doing so, physicians maintain clinical autonomy in small working groups, which we call Pods, while benefiting from alignment with Johns Hopkins Health System.

2020 Johns Hopkins Medicine Clinical Physician of the Year
Mark Landrum, MD, Board Member of JHRP, Chief of the Division of Infectious Diseases at HCGH and physician leader for epidemiology and infection prevention for the Johns Hopkins community hospitals, was awarded the 2020 Johns Hopkins Medicine Clinical Awards Physician of the Year for Howard County General Hospital. Considered a world-class infectious disease physician, Mark Landrum possesses clinical acumen, patient centeredness and collegiality in equal measure, according to his colleagues. He collaborates well with team members when consulting on patients, and advocates for the best patient care initiatives possible. Perhaps most importantly, Landrum’s forethought about the COVID-19 pandemic is the reason Howard County General Hospital was well-prepared to handle the crisis. He started warning about the virus well before it arrived in the United States, and advised that we develop plans to deal with it far ahead of time. Thanks to him, the hospital did. -
2018 and 2021 Johns Hopkins Medicine Clinical Physician of the Year
Eric Schwartz, MD, a member of the active physician admitting staff at Howard County General Hospital, currently serves as the Chairman, Department of Medicine, Chair of the Medical Staff Credentials Committee, Co-Chair of the HCGH STEMI Committee, and as a member of the EP Clinical Community of the JHHS. Dr. Schwartz was awarded the 2018 and 2021 Johns Hopkins Medicine Clinical Awards Physician of the Year for Howard County General Hospital. Dr. Schwartz’s commitment to patient care and dedication to running the electrophysiology lab at HCGH are second to none. He was instrumental in the implementation of the HCGH elective cardiac catheterization program along with Johns Hopkins interventional cardiologists. Dr. Schwartz also significantly facilitated cardiac procedures at the hospital, enabling numerous patients to get a pacemaker without needing to transfer to an outside hospital.
